Ola Yvonne (Dixon) Steele, of 207 Dixon Street, York, SC, departed this earthly life on August 27, 2025 at Atrium Health-Wake Forest Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Born April 19, 1956, she was a daughter of the late Cleveland and Mary (Sims) Dixon.
Yvonne was a faithful member of White Hill AME Zion Church and served her church home as an assistant secretary and choir member for over a decade. Yvonne loved her church, church family and was currently serving as the Christian Education Director, as well as on other auxiliaries.
Yvonne graduated from York Comprehensive High School in 1974. She then attended York Technical College, where she earned her associate degree.
Yvonne was the family songbird, with a beautiful melodic voice. Yvonne loved to read romance novels, loved spicy food and was an undercover comedian. Yvonne named several of the children in the family and came up with some very interesting nicknames as well, such as "Wheezy," "Samson," "Bootsy," "Littleman," "Doodlebug," and "Munchkin."
Yvonne retired from Barloworld in Charlotte, NC, as an accounts receivable supervisor and spent the latter part of her years as a supernanny, before becoming ill and transitioning.
Yvonne was a loving daughter, sister, niece, auntie, relative and friend, as well as Nanny to her "Munchkin, J.J.", Ja'Shon Anthony.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents is her special cousin, Gwendolyn Curry.
Yvonne leaves to cherish loving memories her siblings, Shirley Thacker (James), William "Bill" Dixon (Yvonne), and Bobby Dixon, all of York, SC; two special aunts, Doretha Littlejohn (Otis) and Patricia Curry; her nephews: Clevie Dixon (Gloria), Stephen Dixon (Barbara), Damion Dixon (Marissa), Jarvis McConnell, and Z'ion Dixon; her nieces: Nina McConnell, Courtney Thompson, Akeenah Gore, and Avareah Dixon; her niece-in-law, Jona McFadden; a host of great-nieces and nephews; special cousins: James Anderson, Carrie Jones, Betty Faye Garvin, Charlie Garvin, Susan Smith, Beverly Curry, and Arnishia Curry; a group of devoted friends: Monica Bryson, Barbara Green, and Linda Boyd; her beloved godchildren; as well as other family and friends.
Yvonne will be truly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.
The Race has been run, and the Victory has been won!
Rest in Paradise Niece, Sister, Auntie, Cousin, Godmother, Nanny, and Friend!
