Willie James Miller

Mr. Willie Miller, 74, passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2021 in New York.  He was born June 27, 1947 in York County, SC to the late Robert and Ella J. Miller.

Funeral services will be 1:30 pm, Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:30 prior to the service. Burial will follow at Uniondale Cemetery in York, SC.

Willie resided in South Carolina as a youth and then moved to New York. He worked at the most famous bread factory, Wonder Bread, for many years.  He retired from Wonder Bread on June 26th, 2009, and on that very day, his grandson, Jayden was born. It was also the day before his birthday. 

Willie Miller was not a man of many words, but he had a very gentle, kind and loving soul. However, once you got him to start talking, he would go on and on, especially if it was on a topic that he knew very well. He got to enjoy the greater things in life because his life partner, Ida Mitchell, wouldn't have it any other way.  He was very helpful and always found himself fixing something around the house or other.  Even if it was never really fixed, he said he fixed it good enough.

He's visited multiple Caribbean islands and took various cruises throughout the years of his life.

As we remember him the way he was, we also want to give our thoughts and prayers to the ones he will join: father, Robert Miller; mother, Ella J. Miller; and brother, Robert Miller, Jr., and granddaughter, India Martin; and those he leaves to cherish in his memory: his life partner, Ida Mitchell; brother, Haskell Miller; sister, JoAnn Miller.  He also leaves behind his children: Tony Davis and his wife, Sigredda, Jeff Davis, Maurice Mitchell and his wife, Michelle Wright Mitchell, Antonio Mitchell, Sharifa Locke, and Lanita Beckford and her husband Rudy Beckford.

He additionally leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Jayden and Ethan Beckford, Samaya Mitchell, Jywaun Williams, Asia and Antonio Martin; his great-grandchildren: Jordan Williams, Warren Matthews, Jr., Amiya Good, Destiny Littlejohn, Desirae Littlejohn, and Genesis Good, along with a host of nieces and nephews. Although he's gone, he will never be forgotten.
