Mr. William “Crook” Crawford, formerly of York, SC, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018 in Washington, DC. Born December 25, 1944, he was a son of the late Mary Boler Crawford Rainey and Otis Charles Crawford.
Educated in York Public Schools, he graduated from Jefferson High School Class of 1963. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army for two years. He worked as a librarian for the University of the District of Columbia for over 30 years.
Billy loved music, especially Smokey Robinson. He loved to talk on the phone to his family and friends for hours at a time. He loved to dress, and was always very stylish.
Surviving to cherish fond memories are his daughter, LaSans Crawford Dent; grandson, Robbie Dent; his siblings, Otis Charles Crawford, Jr., Nelson McConnell, Mamie “Bunny” Wells (Dennis), Claude Rainey, Robert Rainey, Robert Crawford, Frank Armburst, Fadrian Crawford and Rose Reid; two special cousins, Bessie Hale and Bennie Hickey; a lifelong friend, Ben Evans; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be 12:00 Noon, Thursday December 27, 2018 at Wesley United Methodist Church in York, SC with Rev. Rod Freeman officiating.
The family will receive friends other times at the home of his sister, Mamie "Bunny" Wells in McConnells, SC.
