William Kendrick Obituary

Mr. William Perry Kendrick, 69, of 5192 Fewell Road, Clover, passed away Friday, March 17, 2023 at his home.  Born November 18, 1953 at Divine Savior Hospital in York, SC, he was a son of Lillie Sue Kendrick and the late William "Wee-Boy" Kendrick, and the eldest of four children.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Thursday, March 30, 2023 at Center Baptist Church in Gastonia, NC with Rev. Dr. Milton Key (Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Clover, SC) officiating and Rev. Pierre Crawford, Pastor, assisting. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:00 am prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC.

Better known as Perry, in 1970 he enlisted in the reserves, but later transferred to the United States Marine Corps.  A proud Vietnam Veteran, PFC Kendrick specialized as a Marksman Instructor & Antitank Assault man.  During his years of service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, M-14 Rifle Expert Badge (3rd Award) and Good Conduct Medal Period Commences (1st award).  In 1974, he was honorably discharged.

In 1976, Perry met Barbara A. Lindsey on Sullivan Place in Brooklyn, NY. In 1979, he married Barbara, and through this union they produced two loving children, Vicki and Stephania.

Not a man of many words, he was a father who was proud of his baby girls.  He was in attendance of every basketball game, track meet and volleyball game played.  He loved his grandkids just as much.  Perry also loved his westerns and the Pittsburg Steelers.

Perry loved his family and the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ in his life at an early age.  He was also a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Clover, SC.

He is preceded in death by his father, William L. Kendrick; brother, Dennis “Dent” L. Kendrick (ABCD) and half-brother, Willie L. “Pig” Kendrick.

Perry leaves behind to cherish his memory: his mother Lillie S. Kendrick, daughters: Vicki D. Kendrick and Stephania R. Kendrick, stepson, Chaka Lindsey (Tess); stepdaughter, Takitha Lindsey; brother, Angelo Kendrick (Gwen) and half-brother, Johnathan “8-Ball” Kendrick; sister, Zhelma D. Kendrick; grandson, Mahaujah N. Turner; and granddaughter, Kylie P. Browne.  He also leaves an uncle, William “Bill” Crawford (Barbara); an aunt, Dorothy McCorkle (Bobby Joe); his nieces: Ebony C. Kendrick, Angela M. Kendrick, Keri D. Thompson, Octavia Kendrick and Tanisha Kendrick; and nephews: Marquis R. Kendrick (Genelle), Dennis “Lil Dennis” Kendrick, Angelo “Boo” Kendrick, Angelo “AJ” Kendrick, Johnathan Kendrick, Antonio Kendrick, David Singletary and Christian Singletary; as well as a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
