Shirley Roxanne Bigger Miller was born in Clover, SC on August 5, 1953 to Palmer and Geneva Bigger. She was the third child of eight children. She departed this life on Friday, April 5, 2019 at her home with her daughter and sister by her side.

Shirley was a 1971 graduate of Clover High School where she was a member of the Basketball Team.  Before her retirement in December 2018 – after 41 years, she was employed as Safety Coordinator with American and Efird. In her earlier years with the company she enjoyed being a member of the softball team.

Shirley was a lifelong member of Liberty Hill AME Zion Church, where she was a faithful servant. She loved God and serving in the church.  During her life she served Liberty Hill in many capacities: first Coordinator of the Young Adult Missionary Society, Missionary Parent Body President for many years, member of the Booster’s Ministry, former member of the Musical Choir and Voices of Praise, member of the Stewardess Board – helping with the Culinary Committee, a Trustee, member and teacher of the Sunday School, Quarterly Conference Secretary, Class Leader, and church sexton.  Shirley worked tirelessly serving, God, her Pastor, and her church!

Not only was Shirley active in the local church she worked just as hard at the District and Conference levels.  She served as Special Education President for the Rock Hill and York Districts and Advisor and Team Member for the Special Education Department of the New Rock Hill District. She was Assistant- District Secretary for the New Rock Hill District.  Shirley served the South Carolina Conference as Conference Special Education President, a member of the Necrology Committee, and the Audit Committee. She was twice chosen to represent the Missionaries as a delegate to the WHOMS Quadrennial Convention.

Shirley loved traveling but cruising was her favorite. She loved planning trips for the women of the church and was instrumental in many exciting and fun-filled adventures! Shirley was a loving and supportive mother, grandmother, God-mother, sister and friend. Shirley, her daughter and granddaughter made it a tradition to travel every year on the 4th of July.  Shirley loved to bowl and was on several bowling leagues.  In a nutshell - Shirley loved life!

Her parents and two brothers, Eddie Lee and Kenneth, preceded her in death.

Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter, LaShonna Simpson of Marietta GA; and Granddaughter, NaDhra Simpson of Marietta GA, whom she loved with all of her heart!
