Sersia B Butler

Ms. Sersia Bell Butler, 77, of York, SC and formerly of Chester, SC, departed this life on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at home. Born November 20, 1948 in Chester, she was a daughter of the late Belinda and Sylvia (Ford) Butler.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, June 13, 2026 at Union Baptist Church in Chester, SC. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Chester.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm prior to the service, and other times at the home.

Miss Sersia Bell Butler, 77, slept away peacefully from this earthly life on June 4, 2026 at her home in York, SC. Born November 20, 1948, she was a daughter of the late Mr. Belinda Butler and Mrs. Sylvia Ann Ford Butler.

Sersia attended Chester County Schools in Chester, SC. She was a lifelong member of Union Baptist Church in Chester, where she joined at an early age. There, she served as a member of the Usher Board, Butler-Crosby Choir, Kitchen Committee and Missionary Society.

Sersia brought love and laughter to all who knew her. She was a lifelong caregiver, and her loving and nurturing spirit was well known to her family, friends and community. She will be forever remembered for her warm and loving smile and caring manner.

Sersia loved traveling, especially going on cruises. She travelled to many islands in the Caribbean and to Hawaii. She loved arts and crafts, drawing and painting as well. Sersia loved caring for others and knowing that she was wanted and needed. This gave Sersia a sense of worth and purpose, and this made her beloved by family and friends alike. Sersia was very blessed and lived life to the fullest.  

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Emma A. Bunn, and “Little” Sylvia Ann; brothers, Belindo Butler, Rufus M. Butler and Robert E. Butler; and two best friends, Alice Williams of York, SC and Dorothy Doyle of Plainfield, NJ.

Surviving to cherish loving memories are her sister and caregiver, Gussie D. Butler of the home; other sisters, Willette B. Sammons of Middletown, DE, and Talatha B. Crosby (Avis) of Portsmouth, VA; two brothers, Arthur Butler of the home and William I. Butler (Elaine) of Rock Hill, SC; her best friends, Lillie Mae Sanders and Evangelist Gloria Grier both of Chester, SC; as well as a host of nieces and nephews whom she helped to nurture, cousins and friends.
