Mr. Samuel Lee "Frog" Gilmore, 66, of 3951 Hord Road, Sharon, SC passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC. Born December 8, 1954, he was a son of the late Clyde and Ozella Smarr Gilmore.
Funeral services will be 1:30 pm, Sunday, January 24, 2021 at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York, SC with Rev. George A. McCoy officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service.
A walk-thru will be held from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm on Sunday, at Gold Hill Baptist Church in York, SC, prior to the service.
Samuel Lee ‘Frog’ Gilmore, 66, of 3951 Hord Rd, Sharon SC went home to be with the Lord on January 20, 2021. He was born December 8, 1954 to the late Clyde and Ozella Smarr Gilmore.
He was a faithful and dedicated member of the Gold Hill Baptist Church, where he joined at an early age in life. At Gold Hill, he served for many years as a Deacon. He was the Senior Hymn Choir Leader, a member of the Gospel Choir, and The Brotherhood. He also helped out on various choirs over the years at Gold Hill as he loved to sing and was just happy to be in the number.
He was presiding president of the York Prayer Band. He was a member of Wilson Lodge # 303, where he had previously served as Worshipful Master as well as other various positions with the lodge for over 25 years. He was also a member of the Wilson Chapel #207 Order Eastern stars, where he was Past Worthy Patron.
He recently joined the AP&B Society Grand Lodge, where he was newly elected president. Frog was also a former president of The United Steel Workers GMP Union Local 291, in which the members did not want him to leave because when you were right and he knew, he would fight for you to help make sure that the workers were being treated right. He truly took pride in that position as well as with everything he did. He always put forth his best efforts to wear his many hats and still be there for his family.
Surviving, and to whom he leaves wonderful memories to cherish, are his loving wife of 45 years, Sally Gilmore; His four children: one daughter Tonya Gilmore, three sons Ditrick Gilmore (Juanita) of Clover SC, Jeremiah Gilmore (Kamesha) of Moore, SC and Theo Gilmore (LaShandra) Aviano, Italy; Nine Grandchildren: De’I, Nakiah, Nehemiah, Serenity, Langston, Autumn, Aaliyah, Julius, and Hannah; Two Brothers, Claude (Claire) Gilmore and Walter Gilmore; Four sisters, Clara White, Mary Diane Dixon, Ethel Burris, and Yvonne Gary; Four Sisters-in-law, Lo Alice Smith, Florence Bankhead, Maggie Robbins, and Betty Robbins; Two Brothers-in-law, David Robbins (Barbara) and Hansel Robbins (Maeola); Two Goddaughters, Dr. Andrea Gilmore Bykowskyi and Nina Simpson; Two Special Nieces that he adored, Clarissa Sanders and Secret Isom; His entire church Family, and last but not least, Ms. Mary (Mae Kate) McConnell and Ms. Sarah McClain, his two riding buddies he picked up not only for church, but to take whenever there was a program going on. He truly loved taking them everywhere for church. There were many, many others that he also adopted over the years and he held each and every one of you dear to his heart.
