Ms. Sadie Bell Barnette became absent from the body to be present with the Lord on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at White Oak Manor in York, SC. Sadie was born March 27, 1927 in York, South Carolina to the late Robert and Sadie Lowry Barnette.
Sadie attended the public schools of York County. She accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age, and became a member of Langrum Branch Baptist Church. She was a member of the Missionary Society and Burial Aid Society.
Sadie was a domestic worker. She helped in the rearing of many children. She was a homemaker; her specialties were sweet tea, sweet potato pies, and coconut pies.
In the early 2000's, Sadie was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. In July 2004, she was admitted to Oak Pond Assisted Living of Rock Hill, and in August 2007, she was moved to White Oak Manor in Rock Hill. In June 2009, she became a resident of White Oak Manor in York, where she remained until her transition from this life.
Preceding her in death are a granddaughter, Paula Annette Burris; seven sisters, Elizabeth Lowry, Leitha Sherer, Blanche Gist, Helen Barnette, Roberta Burris, Dorothy Orr, and Della Robinson; four brothers, James Lowry, David Barnette, Phillip Barnette, and Robert Barnette, Jr.; and three siblings who died at birth.
She leaves not to mourn, but rather to remember and rejoice in her spirit: her daughter, Mamie Barnette Burris (Rev. Jacob Burris); two granddaughters, Angela Knighton (Solomon), and Tracy Owen (Lenard); three great-grandsons, Jairus Burris and Jeremiah Burris both of York, SC, and Clenekeous Owens of Rock Hill, SC; one great-great grandson, Jayce Burris; one sister-in-law, Sarah Barnette; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 12:00 noon, Monday, May 10, 2021 at Wright Funeral Home in York, SC with Rev. Richard Pickering officiating. Burial will follow at Langrum Branch Baptist Church Cemetery in York.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, Saturday May 8, 2021 at the funeral home.
