Mrs. Rosa Lee Steele, was lovingly known as “Roe” and “Rosey”, by her immediate family. She was born to Martha Williams and Picky Jones in Gastonia, N.C. She was born December 22.1917.
She departed this earthly life September 29, 2021, at the God favored age of 103, at her home in Fort Mill, S.C. Oh, what a blessed life she lived.
She was lovingly cared for by her daughter: Mrs. Doris Wilson, granddaughter: Mrs. Donna Witherspoon, daughter: Betty Smith and brother: Eddie Steele, Grandson: Monte Wilson and a host of family members.
She attended New Home School and New Home Church under the watchful eye and care of Reverend Jenkins at the age of six years old. There, she professed her love of Jesus Christ and accepted Him as her Lord and Savior.
At the age of 6, Rosa lost her mom and infant brother. Because the Meeks already had a baby girl, Ianthia, she chose to live with her Aunt Annie Bell and Harper Meeks of the New Home Community.
The family moved to Old Pinkney Rd, where after many years she met and married the only love of her life, Palmer Steele, of Clark-Steele Rd. They moved to Center Street, where she faithfully attended now-called Mt. Zion Fire Baptized Holiness Church on the By-Pass of York. There were only a Faithful few who worshipped and praised God there at the time, under the preaching and teaching of God's truths by the powerful, and spiritual leaders of Mrs. Hannah Tolbert and Mrs. Mozell Castle. She would do her holy shout, praise God, and run in God's House, when the Holy Spirt fell upon her.
She has continued the faithful walk with God throughout her life. Even though she was bed-ridden the latter part of her life, spiritual music had her clapping her hands and moving her head to the words and music.
For many years, she worked for Dr. Herbert Parrish and as a domestic.
She is preceded in death by: mother, Martha Williams, father, Picky Jones, mother-in-law, Ella Steele-Clark, brother-in-law, Lorenzo Steele, Special aunt, Annie Bell Meeks (Harper Meeks); and a grandson, Rodney Wilson.
Mrs. Rosa leaves to cherish fond memories, her children, Mrs. Doris Wilson of Fort Mill S.C., Mrs. Betty Smith of Greensboro, N.C., Mr. Eddie Steele of York, S.C., Grandsons: Mr. Monte Wilson Fort Mill, S.C., and Mr. William Simon Steele, of Atlanta, Ga; granddaughters: Mrs. Donna Witherspoon, of Rock Hill, S.C., Mrs. Rosetta Davis, Mrs. Pamela Revell, of Chesapeake, Va., Ms. Yolanda Smith of Greensboro N.C., Mrs. Inger Jones of Columbia S.C.; as well as a host of great grands, great-great grands, friends, and special little sisters with whom she grew up: Mrs. Ianthia Nevelle of York.
