Reverend Jean Marie Currence was born October 7, 1953 to the late Margaret Woods Dye and Otis Dye, the fifth of seven children. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 15, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.
Jean loved the Lord and gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a member of St. James AME Zion Church in Hickory Grove, SC. She was also the former associate pastor of Shiloh AME Zion Church in Grover, NC and Clover Zion AME Zion Church in Clover, SC.
Jean worked for Cannon Mills for many years until the plant closed. She then went to work for York County as a building maintenance supervisor. She retired from York County on June 30, 2017.
Surviving to cherish loving memories are her husband of 52 years, Ulysess Lee Currence of the home; her children, Tony Dye (Pamela) of Gastonia, NC, Ben Currence (Nona) of Kings Mountain, NC, Travis Currence (Telikia) of Gaffney, SC, and Wesley Leach (Eva) of Rock Hill, SC; her siblings, Ruby Good, Shirley Dawkins, Priscilla Good (Harry), Gerdine Dye, Mary Dye and William Dye, Glenda Leach and Patricia Leach; her grandchildren, Anthony Dye, Olivia Dye, Helinszi Martin, Isaiah Martin, Keyondre Currence, Nicole Currence, Camille Currence, Isaiah Currence, and Brielle Currence; her aunt, Phenie Golatt (Moses) of Virginia; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be 12:00 noon, Friday, March 21, 2025 at Liberty Church in York, SC with Rev. Jacqueline Good officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon prior to the service.
