Kevin M. Burris, 62, of 2778 Ramblewood Court, Rock Hill, SC, transitioned from this life on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, SC. Born October 4, 1958 in Morristown, NJ to the late Johnnie Mae Burris and Maurice Hunt.
Kevin graduated from York Comprehensive High School in 1977. He began working at Cannon Mill until they shut down, and then began working at Aplix Incorporated in North Carolina, where he worked for over 20 years. He also graduated from Agape Bible College, Gastonia, NC in 2011. He served in the Army Reserve from 1978 to 1984.
Kevin was drawn to the ministry, and became a licensed minister on February 10, 2008 at St. Luke #1 Baptist Church in Sharon, SC. He was later ordained in the ministry on March 24, 2012 by the Sandy River Baptist Association. Kevin was Associate Minister at St. Luke #1 for several years. He then started the Youth Ministry at Great Joy Baptist Church in McConnells, SC. During this time, he also became the pastor at Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church in Filbert, SC, and continued to serve both Great Joy and Pleasant Grove until his passing. Kevin loved both of his church families with all of his heart, and was a dedicated servant and minister.
Kevin was always there for his family. He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren tremendously, and would do anything for them. He was a loving and caring man, but made sure that his children and grandchildren knew how to pray.
Kevin loved to travel, and would load up as many of his children as he could and take them to various destinations.
Kevin is preceded in death by his mother, Johnnie Mae Burris; his father, Maurice Hunt; brother, Ricky Burris; daughter, Antinique Burris; and granddaughter, Faith Pearson.
Kevin leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Annie Woods Burris; three daughters, Rhonda Pearson (Reginald) of Rock Hill, SC, Maurika Burris of Lancaster, SC, and Alona Burris of Fort Mill, SC; one son of the home, Kevin Maurice Burris, Jr.; seven grandchildren: Kevinon Burris, Ja’ Mere Burris, Diamond Burris, Kevin Burris, III, Serena Burris, Brendon Burris, and Andrew Pearson; a goddaughter, Quanisha Burris. He also leaves behind his mother-in-law, Frances Woods of York, SC; five brothers, Darryl Burris (Stacy) of Atlanta, GA, Ronnie Burris (Tawanda) of Spartanburg, SC, Bernard Hunt of California, Mark Hunt (Carole) of Michigan, and Alex Hunt (Randy) of St. Martin; seven sisters, Marina Gilbert of Millersburg, PA, Lillian “Peaches” Banks, Angie Goodine (Jeffrey), Kim Hunt, and Yvette Mitchell-Hunt all of Florida, Amy Smith (Robert) of Anderson, IN, and Amanda Snowden (Jamison) of Frisco City, AL; brothers-in-law: Jerry Woods, Kelly Woods, Rev. Charles Woods (Wanda) all of Gastonia, NC, Jeff Woods of York, SC, Tim Woods and Larry Woods (Kimberly) both of Rock Hill, SC; sisters-in-law: Sadie Brice (Calvin) and Nell Pressley (Elaizer Jr.) both of Rock Hill, SC, and Marcella Woods; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Please observe ALL COVID-19 protocols at both the funeral home and Great Joy Baptist Church. Wear masks, and remain socially distanced. Please bring a chair if you cannot stand for longer than 10 minutes.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Great Joy Baptist Church in McConnells, SC with Rev. Dr. W. Franklin Blue officiating. Burial follow the service immediately at Crawford Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
