Mrs. Olivia White Jones, the second of ten children, was born August 10, 1925 to the late Albert and Rebecca Hope White in York County, South Carolina. "The moment comes when earth ties must be severed from family, friends, and acquaintences." This moment came for Olivia on Monday morning, November 11, 2019 at her home, 207 Barron Park, York, South Carolina.
"Munk," as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, lived her early childhood in York, South Carolina and attended Langrum Branch Church School, and was baptized at Langrum Branch Baptist Church at an early age. She moved to New York City along with her husband, the late Harry M. Jones.
She worked in the textile industry for many years until she retired and later moved back to York, South Carolina. She continued to serve at Langrum Branch Baptist Church until her health began to decline. Munk loved to cook, travel and listen to gospel music.
In addition to her parents, Olivia is preceded in death by her loving husband, Harry M. Jones; a son, Furman Jones; and five siblings, Nancy Burris, Catherine Smith, Laura Wilson, Albert White, Jr., and Mary Wood.
Left to cherish fond memories of Olivia: a son, Henry White (Laura) of Atlanta, GA; a daughter, Olivia Jones of New York, NY; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three sisters, Carrie Douglas (Fred) of York, SC, Doreatha Junious of Bronx, NY, and Rosa White of Rock Hill, SC; one brother, Alexander White (Yvonne) of Far Rockaway, NY; a sister-in-law, Estelle White of Rock Hill, SC. Also left to cherish fond memories are her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, and a very special kindred and caretakers who were her nieces and nephews. Olivia will be truly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Monday, November 18, 2019 at Langrum Branch Baptist Church, 1500 McFarland Road, York, SC with Rev. Richard Pickering, Sr. officiating, and Minister Paris White eulogizing. Burial will follow at Galilee Baptist Church Cemetery in York.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:00 pm prior to the service.
