Minnie Miller Pharr passed Thursday morning, November 12, 2020 at HarborChase Memory Care Program at the age of 83 years old.
She was also receiving Hospice Care services from Agape Care of South Carolina. Minnie was born in York, South Carolina to the late
Charles Anthony and Evelyn Miller Pharr on May 25, 1937.
She attended and graduated from Jefferson High School. Minnie also attended and graduated from Denmark Technical College in Denmark,
South Carolina, where she studied Seamstress Sciences and Tailoring. Minnie was instrumental in making over 30 choir robes for the
Jefferson High School Glee Club, which was then under the direction of Mrs. Evelyn Hartzog.
After her education, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she became
employed by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and worked for over 36 years. During her employment, she worked in several different
departments, each proved to be a better position than the previous. Once retired, she accepted a position as a Consultant for
several years later.
Minnie grew up in Wesley United Methodist Church. After moving to the Washington, DC/Maryland area, she also attended Asbury
Methodist Church and Plymouth Methodist Church. She and her friends would spend two nights each month at a local casino in Atlantic
City, NJ, one of her favorite pastimes. Minnie also enjoyed eating out at Red Lobster, Ruby Tuesday, and attending the Kennedy Center
for the Performing Arts. She was faithful in planning her vaction home during the holidays, especially Christmas. Anyone lucky enough to
know her, knew she was a wonderful person. Just as her Mom and Dad were strong pillars of the family, so was Minnie. Minnie was respectful
and respected, well-liked by family and members of the community. She was also an excellent cook who loved to bake delightful desserts.
Her warm, inviting, beautiful smile exudes the person she was inside. Despite her sweetness, she was known to have chased a potential
mugger for attempting to snatch her purse on the streets of Washington, D.C.
Her friends describe her as kind-hearted and easy-going, loyal, with a keen sense of humor and a generous, wonderful person to know.
Even though Minnie depended on public transit while traveling to work, she was always on time to work--during rain, sleet or snow. She was
often teased about getting to work on time long before her colleagues who had cars!
Minnie's decline in health warranted her moved back to York in August 2011. It was home where she found comfort, peace and relaxation;
sitting on the porch on an extremely hot day, listening to the birds chirping, feeding neighborhood dogs, and admiring the many over-hanging
trees brought her pleasure in her later days. Passers by would always greet her graciously.
Minnie was in a class of her own - a very pleasant and beautiful sister, aunt, cousin, in-law, neighbor and friend.
Preceding her in death are two sisters, Joan Pharr Doctor and Charlene M. Pharr; a brother, Arthur Vernon Pharr; a nephew, Ronnie Pharr; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Kate Pharr.

NC; sister-in-law, Helen Pharr of York, SC; brother-in-law, Bobby Doctor of Atlanta, GA; nieces: Bridgette Pharr Carter and Tracie Howell;
