Mattie Mae (Smith) Rowell

Mrs. Mattie Mae (Smith) Rowell, 71, of 2560 April Showers Lane, Rock Hill, SC, departed this life on Friday, May 14, 2021. Born October 2, 1949 in Rock Hill, SC, she was the daughter of the late Fred Smith, Sr. and Geraldine McNeal Smith.

Mrs. Rowell graduated from Emmett Scott High School, class of 1967. She worked for more than 30 years at Hoechst Celanese until her retirement. She continued working for over 10 years at West Marine. She was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher Board, Missionary Ministry, and Sunday School Ministry. She loved spending time with her family and loved doing the work of God.  

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Marion Rowell, Jr. and her brother Thomas Owen Smith.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her son, Timothy Rowell of the home, two daughters, Tracy Rowell of the home and Marian Caldwell of Charlotte, NC. Her beloved grandchildren, Antoine Caldwell, Tyrie K. Rowell, Shamekia Caldwell and Tamekia Caldwell. Two sisters, Julia Chisolm (Johnny) and Ruanda Brice both of Rock Hill, SC; two brothers, Fred Smith, Jr. of Sumter, SC and Wilfred Smith (Theresa) of Rock Hill, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in McConnells, SC, with Rev. Dr. Anthony Johnson presiding. Burial will follow at Grandview-Hollis Lakes Memorial Park in Rock Hill, SC.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, Friday, May 21st at the funeral home, and other times at the home.
