Celebration of Life for
Mason Phillip Tate
Mason Phillip Tate, 68, was born and reared in York, S.C. in the great community of New Home. He entered eternal rest at his residence in Stanley, N.C. on last week. He was the husband of Beverly Forney Tate and son of the late Mason B.T. Davis and Mary Magdalene Tate Davis. His sister, Doris V. Myles, and a niece, Marsha Tate Hopkins, preceded him in death.
In 1969, Mason graduated from Roosevelt High School, Clover, S.C. after which he obtained a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Livingston College in Salisbury, N.C. Mason was employed with the American Red Cross for numerous years. He was an avid photographer. Mason was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. as well as the Sparking Diamond Masonic Lodge #373 of Charlotte, N.C. He joined New Home A.M.E. Zion Church at a very young age.
Mason leaves to cherish his fond and loving memories his wife, and two beloved sons, BaCari Tate and Jameel Brown; eight sisters, Curlie Beauliere, Cathey F. Tate, Carolyn (Jesse) Jacobs, Harriet Y. Davis, Monica A. Davis, Joycelyn Murchison, Cossandra L. Davis, and Jennifer (John) Henderson; four brothers, the Reverend Melvin L. (Katrina)Tate, Haskell K. (Avis) Davis, Reginald L. (Yolanda) Davis & Marvin O. (Tammy) Davis; and his very special Aunts Ernestine Davis and Montressa Boulware, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as the extended Tate and Davis families. In addition, most of all his favorite angels Chloe Doster & Tiana Tate.
A Memorial Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at New Home A.M.E. Zion Church, 3290 Charlotte Hwy, York, S.C. The family is receiving friends at 316 Pelling Drive, York, S.C. or 1147 Southland Drive, Rock Hill, S.C.
