Marvin Adams Obituary

Mr. Marvin Lee Adams (63 years old) was born in New Haven, Connecticut on December 19, 1961, though he usually celebrated his birthday on Christmas Day. He was the son of Dorothy Hemphill and the late James Adams. “Marty”, as he was called, departed this life to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Hospice & Community Care in Rock Hill, SC.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Junior Hemphill; his siblings, James Earl Adams, Nathaniel Adams, and Arthur Eugene Adams; grandson, Dontaivious Malik Dunlap; and brother-in-law, Steve Haggins.

Mr. Marvin “Marty” Adams received his high school diploma from York Comprehensive High School in 1981.  During his life, he was employed by Stanley Black & Decker for 27 years and was loved deeply by his work family and friends. Marvin was a member of Center Emmanuel A.M.E. Zion Church. He was the loving father of Martavis, Michael, and Myokka for over 40 years. Also worth noting was his special lifelong friendship with his cousins Ernest and William Starnes.

Marvin had a profound love of classic cars and enjoyed attending car shows and watching races. His hobbies also included fishing and partying. His signature saying was “Ain’t no party without Marty!” One of his most notable qualities was that he was always willing to help anybody whenever needed.

Surviving to cherish his memories are his mother, Mrs. Dorothy Hemphill; siblings, Leroy (Wanda) Adams, Jackie (Furman) Douglas, Kenneth Adams, Roxanne Haggins, George Hemphill, Retired Sgt. John Hemphill, Ethel Hemphill, Elaine Gray, and James Hemphill; children, Michael (Carolann) McDowell, Myyokka Dunlap, and Martavis Dunlap; grandchildren, Aaron (Kyah) McDowell, Jeremiah McDowell, Janayi Barnette, Devon Dunlap; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
