Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 2, 2019 at New Home AME Zion Church in York, SC. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 pm, Friday, November 1, 2019 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Martha Jane Moore Williams, 73, of Old Bridge, New Jersey departed this earthly life Sunday, October 27, 2019 in Cherokee, North Carolina. Born October 27, 1946 in Mount Union, Pennsylvania, she was one of twelve children of the late Robert and Willa Mae Leach Moore.
Martha was educated in Pennsylvania State schools, graduating in 1964. She later attended Essex County College in Newark, New Jersey, obtaining her certification in Business Administration. She worked for more than 30 years in the insurance industry in many different roles. Before retiring from the insurance industry, she spent most of her time working for two companies: Selective Insurance Company and Chubb, the world’s largest publicly traded property and casualty insurance company. Martha then went to work for Walmart for approximately 15 years.
Martha enjoyed attending church and traveling. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was certain to reach out to family members on their birthday and to remind everyone else to do the same. She was a confidante to many and had the unique ability to make everyone feel special, understood, and loved. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren could always count on her to be their biggest fan!
A few fun facts about Martha are that she was a top-notch ping pong player, enjoyed boxing in her younger years, and loved watching sports. She particularly enjoyed watching and discussing tennis matches with her son Randy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Harry Thomas Williams,Sr; her brothers, James Moore, Yusef Moore, and John Moore; her sisters, Bertha Clark and Sally Moore; her niece, Tina Moore; and her nephew, Muhammed Williams.
Left to cherish loving memories are her children: Judy Moore of Old Bridge, NJ; Harry Williams, Jr. of Old Bridge, NJ; Alberita “Mae-Mae” McCoy (Elbert) of Rock Hill, SC; Loretta Cleveland (Danyon) of Rock Hill, SC; and Randy Williams, Esq. of Stone Mountain, GA.
She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, Alnisha Taraya Moore, Shakeerah “Boo” Moore, Vernesha “VeVe” Moore-Allen, Terell “Doman” Markett, Lamar “Marty” Markett, Latifah Thompson, Malik T. Williams, Sierra Williams, Al’amin Cleveland; nine great-grandchildren; her siblings, Minnie Simpson and Barbara Lord of York, SC;, Marvalene Moore, Marjorie Moore, Haasim Salaam, and Ka, all of Newark, NJ; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Martha also shared a special life-long friendship with Rev Marcus & Fannie Johnson of Newark, NJ.
