Martha Elizabeth (Montgomery) Thomasson

Mrs. Martha Elizabeth "Snooky" Thomasson, 93, of 302 Hunter Street, York, SC departed this life on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at White Oak Manor in York, SC.  Born September 2, 1928 in York, she was a daughter of the late Beaufort Montgomery and Ada Starnes Montgomery Allison.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 3, 2022 at White Hill AME Zion Church in York, SC.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Friday, September 2nd at the funeral home.

Mrs. Snooky confessed Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of White Hill AME Zion church.  There, she served on the Stewardess, Missionary and Deaconess boards, Willing Workers, Hymn Choir member, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School superintendent, and various other societies.  She was a member of White Hill Chapter No. 350 Order of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Snooky worked at Superior Stainless Steel for many years, at York Episcopal Church Home for Children, and as a domestic worker.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Samuel K. Thomasson; her son, Edward F. "Bear" Thomasson; and siblings: William O. Montgomery, Roy E. Montogomery, Johnnie M. Stansbury, and Gladys M. "Ditty" Gore.

Surviving to cherish fond memories are her children: Milton D. Montgomery (Joan), Samuel K. Thomasson, Jr., Johnny L. Thomasson (Rosa), Phyllis T. Wilson (Billy), and Joyce T. Smith (Charles); 23 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
