Martha Virginia Byers

Martha Virginia Byers, 95, of 309 Washington Street, York, SC departed her earthly journey Monday, December 23, 2019 at home. Born July 25, 1924 in York County, she was a daughter of the late George and Ethel Byers.

 

Virginia was educated in York County Schools, leaving at an early age to go to work.  She believed in education, however, and later went back to earn her GED.  She worked for Globe Manufacturing in Gastonia, NC for over 50 years.

 

She loved gardening, canning fruit and vegetables, wrapping and counting coins.  A faithful woman, she drove the church bus for Fishing Creek Baptist Church for many years as well.  She was the ideal grandmother--Loving, God-fearing, and supportive, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren often called her Grandma Gin or Penny.

 

Though Virginia lived to see six generations of her family, she is preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Nettie Ann Neely and Martha Good; and two sons, Tommy McCoy and Fred Feemster.

 

Surviving to cherish many loving memories are one son, Gregory Byers of the home; her primary caregiver and granddaughter, Dorothy Byers of York; and a grand host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
