Marie Davis Obituary

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7

It is with great mixed emotions that the family of Marie Logan Davis announce her transitioning sunset with angel wings on Friday, March 25, 2022, at the young age of 95.  Her sunrise was July 19, 1926, in Lawndale, NC to her late beloved parents Mintel and Lizzie Smith of York, SC.

Marie will be lovingly remembered by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends, family, and a host of others.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Davis, Sr.; her sister, Lucille Adams; her two brothers, James Smith and William Smith; her son, Jerry Dean Davis; and daughter, Latoya Davis.

Marie was an adoring mother to her surviving children, Paul (Cholia) Davis, Jr. Lizzie Goudelock, Dr. Etheleen Lawson, Jerome Davis, Chris (Kristina) Davis, Brian Davis, Ben Massey whom she fostered for many years, and Marie’s special son, Michael L. Whitlock, whom she raised from birth. Marie had 25 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Marie lived life true to her love of people and fishing.  To know her was to be loved by her. She would spend countless hours fishing with her grandchildren and friends.  In her 25 plus years of service at American Thread Company, Marie made many friends.   Marie was a foster mother to many children over the years.  She had great love for others and did everything she could to assist others.

Her greatest gift, though, was in her discipleship and the many friends and family who came to know Jesus through knowing Marie. Marie was a Saved, Sanctified, and Holy Ghost Spirit filled Christian. Marie was President of the Missionary Board and was a deaconess for over 60 years. Her family will miss her big presence in their lives but rejoice knowing she is at peace and resting as the good and faithful servant she was to the church.

Visitation will be held other times at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Brandi McCoy of 4005 Ramsey Rd. Sharon, SC 29742.

Please join Marie’s family in celebrating her life on Sunday, April 3, 2022.  A visiting hour will be held from 1:30 – 2:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Life service starting at 2:00 pm at Johns Chapel Fire Baptized Holiness Church of God of the Americas at 2073 Chestnut St Hickory Grove, SC  29717.

The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to John’s Chapel FBH Church Missionary Department.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the wonderful PA, Social Workers, Nurses, CNAs and Clergy staff at Kindred Hospice for their compassionate care and fellowship.
