Marie Williams Blake was born March 15, 1923 in York County, and departed this life on January 19, 2020 at White Oak Manor in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Clinton.
She was strong-minded, straightforward, supportive, and hardworking. She kept a neat home where she constantly rearranged the furniture, and she was a great cook and baker, who loved to try out new recipes. For decades she was employed by the late Judge and Mrs. Charles Nunn, until her retirement.
Marie was a long-time member of Galilee Baptist Church, serving as a member of the Hymn Choir and Missionary Board, where she served as the secretary. She was also an avid Sunday School attendee. Marie was a founding member of the York Community Prayer Band, where she served as secretary.
She is preceded in death by her husband Simon Edward Blake Jr.; a daughter, Jennie Williams Blair; and granddaughter, Cynthia Marie Manley.
She leaves to remember her: a son, Kenneth Larry (Marqutta) Blake of Detroit, MI; a daughter, Barbara (Herbert) Manley of Washington, DC; grandsons: Rodney Blair, Linwood (Penda) Manley, and Keith Blake; granddaughters: Veronica “Ronnie” Manley, Constance (Allen) Cork, and Cindi (Shawn) Blair-McManus; as well as a host of great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.
