On November 20, 2018, God called one of his angels, Margie Thompson McCluney home. She was the widow of the late Charles McCluney after fifty years of marriage. Margie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Margie joined Mt. Hopewell Baptist Church at an early age. She later served as second choir leader on the MHWBC Senior Choir. She had a passion for singing God's praises, as well as a love for children, leading her to start a children's choir in the mid 1980's. She called them the Heavenly Starlights, and she hosted various anniversaries and events.
Margie was a daughter of the late Clarence and Annie Belle Powell Thompson, and in addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by seven siblings: Josephine Brown, Johnny Bell Thompson, Willie Thompson, Howard Thompson, Roger Thompson, Raymond Thompson, and Ned Thompson.
Surviving to cherish loving memories are two sons, Kerry McCluney of Union, SC and Torrance McCluney of Sharon, SC; one brother, W.P. Thompson of Sharon, SC; seven grandchildren: LaQueen "Roc" Smith of Union, SC, Chasity "Chaz" McCluney of Lockhart, SC, JaMorris "EJ" Sanders of Chester, SC, William "Max" Stokes of Union, SC, Laurin Johnson of Union, SC, Charles "KJ" McCluney of Lockhart, SC, and Tanaya McCluney of Union, SC; three great-grandchildren: Deavion "Avi" Good of Lockhart, SC, Ace Davis and Raelyn Dixon both of Chester, SC; two devoted life-long friends, Elvenia Worthy and Mary Walker both of Sharon, SC; a"daughter" she raised as her own, Sherry Jackson of Spartanburg, SC; and two close cousins, Athalee Miller and Kristen Pendergrass; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Her Homegoing Celebration will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Mt. Hopewell Baptist Church in Sharon, SC, with Rev. Raymond T. Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. McCluney may be viewed from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, Sunday, November 25, 2018 at the funeral home.
