Mrs. Louvenia Pearl McElveen Warden, daughter of the late Deacon Thomas McElveen and the late Deaconess Robertha Muldrow McElveen, entered into this world on May 27, 1936, in Florence SC and was the oldest of two children. She attended Florence County Schools, graduating from Wilson High School and attended Friendship College in Rock Hill, SC. From an early age, she attended Savannah Grove Baptist Church, giving her life to Christ at the age of 12. Louvenia had a beautiful voice and always sang for the Lord, beginning with the Tiny Tots, the Radio Choir, the Young Adult Choir, and the Glee Clubs in school.

Louvenia moved to New York City and she married her love, John Abner Warden on July 6, 1956. Out of their union they had three children: Winona, Kimberly and Craig Monte. She became a member of Solomon Temple Baptist Church in NYC, singing with the Gospelaires, The Divine Echoes and the D.E.R. Choral Ensemble under the direction of Rev. Dr. Donald E. Rogers. She served as President of the choir, trustee board and was the financial secretary for 30 years, developing her leadership qualities. She frequently attended the Hampton Ministers Conference in Hampton, VA as a member of the choir, and the National Baptist Convention, representing Solomon Temple. In addition, Louvenia graduated from the Bible School Church of God in Christ Theological Institute.

Louvenia worked at the International Ladies Garment Workers Union in NYC for 34 years as a benefits representative, and later retired to take care of her mother. Upon her mother’s passing, she moved to Clover, SC to be closer to her children. She immediately joined Fishing Creek Baptist Church and served as Chairperson of the Seniors Committee and as a member of the choir, which she enjoyed immensely. Louvenia’s hobbies were shopping, talking on the phone with friends, shopping, watching westerns, old “pictures”, soap operas and shopping.

Louvenia departed this world on February 22, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Robertha McElveen, and infant daughter, Kimberly Warden. In addition to her husband, John Warden, she leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Winona Warden Mimms, of Clover, SC, and Craig Monte Warden of Decatur, GA; her sister Thomasena (William) Clark of Atlanta, GA, four grandchildren: Autumn (Franklin) Turner, Imani Warden, Chanel Mimms, and Craig Thomas Warden; three great-grandchildren: Josiah Turner, Noah Mimms, and Azavier Jackson. Louvenia also leaves two godchildren: Louis Hicks Jr. and Revs. Allison (Stephen) Breland.

Lovenia was blessed to have many lifelong friends, countless cousins, nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. Special recognition to Mildred Vandergraft and Ruthie Shearer for always being greats friends; to her niece, Evelyn Gaylord, for her constant help and encouragement and to Tracey Robinson for being an endless comfort.
