Louis F. Murray, born May 5, 1948 in York, SC succumbed to a serious disease on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.
Freddy joined White Hill AME Zion Church at an early age because it was instilled in him. After loving life at his own pleasure for many years, he later gave his life to Christ.
Once he gave his life to Christ, he became a very active member of White Hill. Freddy became an usher, member of men’s ministry, and a member of the hymn choir. He didn’t stop there. He became a Christian Education leader for the young women of White Hill and Lay Council member. He desired more! He eventually became a Sunday School teacher and Chairperson of the Trustees. Teaching Sunday School and acting as Chairperson of the Trustees was very dear to his heart. He could never learn enough and just loved teaching. He took it upon himself to have repairs made in the church and took great pride in doing so. Freddy loved White Hill and its members!
Freddy was a Past Master of White Hill Masonic Lodge #462 and Special Deputy for his district. He also served other masonic duties in his lodge, and additionally was a former Grand Lodge Officer. A hard worker, Freddy retired from Continental General Tire after 31 years, and worked for York County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs for 10 years.
Freddy was preceded in death by his parents, William P and Doretha T. Murray.
He leaves to cherish beautiful memories his high school sweetheart, soulmate and loving wife of 57 years, Jean. He also leaves to cherish awesome memories five children: Jeanine (Rodney) Freeman, of Clover, SC; Darien (Donna) Murray, of Frederick, MD; Ian (Erin) Murray, of Bowie, MD; Clevie (Gloria) Dixon, of York, SC; Tekilla (Paul) Matthews, of McConnells, SC. Also, his two loving sisters: Brenda (Bob) Carey, of Wheaton, MD; and Linda Murray, of Silver Spring, MD.
He was Paw Paw to 15 grands and several great grands. He will be sorely MISSED!
