Lizzie Goudelock Obituary

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7

It is with greatly mixed emotions that the family of Lizzie Mae Goudelock announces her transitioning sunset with angel wings on Tuesday January 6, 2026, at the young age of 77.  Her sunrise was August 16, 1948, in Hickory Grove, SC to her late beloved parents, Paul Davis, Sr. and Marie Logan Davis.

Lizzie graduated from Jefferson High School in York, South Carolina, and she later attended York Technical College.

Lizzie lived life true to her love of people and children. To know her was to be loved by her. She would spend countless hours talking to and teaching the children around her. In her more than 25 years of service at Bright Beginnings CDC, Lizzie made many friends and enhanced the lives of many children. Lizzie was also a foster mother to many children over the years.  She had great love for others and did everything she could to assist others.

Her greatest gift, though, was in her discipleship and the many friends and family who came to know Jesus through knowing Lizzie. Lizzie was a Saved, Sanctified, and Holy Ghost Spirit filled Christian. Lizzie was President of the Missionary Board and was the church Secretary for over 30 years. Her family will miss her big presence in their lives but rejoice, knowing she is at peace and resting as the good and faithful servant she was to the church.

In the last 4 years of Lizzie’s life her daughter took on the role as sole caregiver that was a daunting task that was also rewarding. Casandra’s great care of Lizzie was provided with compassion. When Casandra was not available Devante stepped in and helped take care of his grandmother. Lizzie and Casandra’s bond grew greater as she cared for her mother. Casandra made sure Lizzie was well dressed and taken care of by her. There were many hard days and sacrifices made as Casandra took care of Lizzie. They travelled with family to many places that Lizzie enjoyed, where she met many people in her life, who she loved and who will remember her with that same love. She influenced many young people through the daycare time with them. As time went on Lizzie enjoyed food, and dining out became her hobby. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews.

Lizzie and her niece, Dayna Lawson, developed a special mother/daughter relationship. Dayna and Ms. Lizzie worked together through high school basketball, completing homework, and later running the daycare. Ms. Lizzie and Dayna were best friends. The last voice Ms. Lizzie heard was Dayna telling her to go home to Heaven.

She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Paul Davis, Sr.; her mother, Marie L. Davis; her two brothers, Paul Davis, Jr. and Jerry Dean Davis.

Lizzie was an adoring mother to her surviving daughter, Casandra Lavon Goudelock, and her grandson Devante Oshea Thompson; Her sister, the Elder Rev. Dr. Etheleen Lawson; Her brothers, Jerome Davis and Brian Davis. Mrs. Lizzie is also survived by a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Lizzie, affectionately called “Sister,” will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, the many children raised, loved, and comforted at Bright Beginnings Childcare Center, friends, family, and a host of others.

Please join Lizzie’s family in celebrating her life on Sunday, January 11, 2026.  A visiting hour will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Life service starting at 2:00 pm at Johns Chapel Fire Baptized Holiness Church of God of the Americas at 2073 Chestnut St, Hickory Grove, SC  29717.
