Lillie Floyd Obituary

Mrs. Lillie Bell Floyd of Clover, South Carolina, daughter of the late Sam Tate and Marie Douglas Tate, was born March 30, 1933 in York County, South Carolina.  She departed this life peacefully on Wednesday January 27, 2021 at the home of her niece and caretaker Barbara Jamison of Gastonia, North Carolina.

Betty was a longtime member of Weeping Mary Baptist Church, Bowling Green, South Carolina where she was a member of the Hymn Choir.  She retired from Victory Mill in Gastonia, North Carolina.  She worked for many years caring for infants and toddlers in the Clover, South Carolina area.  Her bond with the children was special and the relationships with each family were very dear to her heart.

Betty was a beautiful soul who loved designer suits and shoes.  She loved to travel with her family and was especially fond of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Cocoa Beach, Florida.  She loved animals including a Black Labrador retriever named “Bama”.  She had a true appreciation for nature.  On a warm sunny day, you would most likely find her sitting outside under a shade tree or spending some time fishing along the banks of a local pond.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband the late John Jackson Floyd; one daughter, Betty Faye Floyd; two sisters, Alice Mae Floyd and Helen Tate Floyd; one brother Billy Tate; Stepmother, Hattie McDowell Tate; nieces, Betty Jo Thomas and Teresa Guest; nephews, Samuel Lewis Tate, Michael Floyd, Richard Floyd and a special nephew, Stanley Floyd, who was raised in the home.

She leaves to cherish precious memories:  Her niece and caregiver, Barbara Jamison, of Gastonia NC; great-nephew and caregiver, Steven Jamison (Risalena) of Lake Wylie SC; sister, Mary Carothers of Gastonia, NC, two brothers, Phillip Tate and Sammie Tate of Gastonia, NC; nieces, Marjorie McDowell (Robert) of Gastonia, NC, Mae Floyd of Gastonia NC, Jackie Chalk of Rock Hill SC, Diane Floyd of Dallas NC, and Tarsha Sanders of York SC; a special niece, Delores Bigger of York SC who was raised in the home; nephews, Johnny Floyd of Bowling Green, SC, Randy Tate of Gastonia NC; great-nieces and nephews: Stephanie J.
