Lester Alexander Burris, 77, was born August 4, 1946, in York County South Carolina, to the late Fleda R. Burris. Lester departed his earthly life and entered eternal rest on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at MUSC Health Center in Chester, South Carolina. Until his decline in health, he resided in Clover, South Carolina in the Oakridge #2 community where he was affectionately known by everyone. On any given day you would see him walking from one end of Fewell Road to the other, day or night.
Lester was educated in Clover, South Carolina, and after graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1964, he enlisted and served in the United States Air Force. Lester had a heart of pure gold and did not mind helping his neighbors or anyone that needed it because he never met a stranger. He loved watching Law & Order, cowboy movies, and football. His favorite team was the Carolina Panthers.
At an early age he joined the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Clover, South Carolina. Over the years he became an honorary member of the Friendly Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Clover, South Carolina, where he loved to pop in for Sunday School and breakfast.
Lester is preceded in death by his mother, Fleda R. Burris, one adopted brother, Isaiah “Zeke” Burris, and one adopted sister, Loretta B. Davis.
Left to cherish his fond memories and loving spirit is his sister, whom he loved dearly and who always took care of him, Brenda B. Tate (Larry) of Gastonia; one adopted brother, Willie S. Biggers (Flora) of Gastonia; three adopted sisters, Lesa Biggers and Terry Biggers, both of Gastonia; Diane B. Johnson (Stan) of Greenville, NC; three nieces, Melchee T. Johnson of Durham, NC; LaWana T. Tate and Rovahnda A. Tate both of Gastonia, NC; two great nieces, Ciera and Faith; one great nephew, Brendan; special cousin, Doris Woods; two cherished cousins, Louise Wise and Margaret Myers, who loved Lester greatly and provided dependable care; and a host of cousins, other great nieces and nephews, and friends who all knew and loved Lester.
