Mr. Larry Bratton Gilmore, 71, went home to be the with Lord on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Doctors Community Hospital in Lanham, MD. He was born March 28, 1949 in York, SC, a son of the late Mansel and Ruth Bratton Gilmore.

Larry was a 1969 graduate of Jefferson High School in York, SC. He worked at Bratton Shoe Shine Shop shining shoes for a brief time, then he moved to Washington, DC to make a better life in 1971. While there, he made many friends. He worked several jobs until he was employed with the Washington Area Transit Authority as a city bus driver. He adored this job and retired there after 31 years.

Ray, as many family and friends called him, was a person who loved his family.  He always made you laugh at things he would say or do, and he loved his grandchildren! He would travel back to SC to see his family as much as he could and always brought “A BUCKET OF CHICKEN” every time he came to town.

Preceding him in death are five brothers, John Lewis Gilmore, Samuel Lee Gilmore, Sr., Robert Lee Gilmore, William Gilmore, and Eddie Gilmore; and two sisters, Ruthie McConnell and Naomi Kendrick.

Surviving to cherish fond memories are four daughters: Shana and Keetra Gilmore both of York, SC, Shenita Bell (Apollo) of White Plains, MD, and Loretta Gilmore of the home; six grandchildren: Marquis Gilmore (Brittany) of Rock Hill, SC, Jasmine Gilmore and Jada Anderson both of York, SC, Arianna Bell, Apollo Bell, Jr., and Alyssa Bell all of White Plains, MD; three great-grandchildren: Channing and Calli McClure of York, SC, and Camden Gilmore of Rock Hill, SC; one step-grandchild, Cayden Uzzell of Rock Hill, SC; four sisters: Sarah Sanders and Diane Odom (Robert) of York, SC, Margaret Finch of Rock Hill, SC, and Belle Falls of Gastonia, NC; and one brother, George Gilmore (Adrianne) of Auburn, MA; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, classmates and friends who will dearly miss him.
