Joyce (Bankhead) McClurkin

Mrs. Joyce Bankhead McClurkin, of York, SC, departed this life on Sunday, April 18,2021 at Atrium Health in Pineville, NC.  She was born February 16, 1943 in York County, SC to the late Robert Odell and Helen Thomas Bankhead.

After being educated in York County Schools, she was trained as a certified nurses assistant, and for many years in the health care field. 

She was an active member at Mt. Hopewell Baptist Church in Sharon, SC, where she served on the Usher Board, Missionary Board, and was a member of the Hymn Choir.

Preceding her death are her three brothers, Robert Faye Bankhead, Gettys Bankhead, and Rev. Arthur Bankhead; two sisters, Mary Ann McKinney and Jean Bankhead Taylor; and her former husband, Rev. J.D. McClurkin.

Left to cherish fond memories are her sisters, Sarah Dennis of Baltimore, MD and Barbara Simplice of Silver Spring, MD; one brother, Porter Lee Bankhead of Washington, DC; a special niece who supported her and was a constant presence in facilitating her rehabilitation, Evangelist Leslie Bankhead; a sister-in-law, Florence R. Bankhead; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends

Services will be private with the family on Thursday, April 22nd at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Luke Baptist Church Cemetery in Buffalo, SC.
