Mr. Joseph Parker, 86, a son of the late Rev. Chester Phillip Parker and Eleanor Rice Parker departed this life on June 23, 2019 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home in Rock Hill, SC. He was born in Spartanburg, SC on July 7, 1932.
Joe graduated from Jefferson High School, where he played football. He then attended the SC Area Trade School in Denmark, SC, where he graduated with a diploma in welding and masonry. He also excelled in football while attending there.
Joe served in the Korean Conflict, earning the National Defense Service, Army of Occupation (Germany), and Good Conduct medals. Joe was later inducted into the YCHS Hall of Fame.
Joe was a faithful member of Wesley United Methodist Church, until his health failed, and where he has served as a trustee, usher, and with the United Methodist Men. Joe also served as leader of the 5th Sunday Caravan, member of Hoodtown Lodge No. 433, and member of Langrum Branch B & A Society. Joe loved baseball and his teams were the Braves, Phillies, and Cincinnati Reds.
In addition to his parents, Joe is also preceded in death by his brother Charles.
Left to cherish fond memories are two daughters, Yvonne Patton of York, SC and Felecia Harden of Charlotte, NC; One Sister, Dorothy Fuller of Garland, Texas; six grandchildren, Jody (Chanue) Patton, and Telly (Brenda) Patton both of York, SC, Ali (Toya) Patton of Lake Wylie, SC Angel (Robert) McCaskill of Gastonia, NC, Jaron Hardin and Gabrielle Hardin both of Charlotte, NC; 19 great-grandchildren and 4 great great-grandchildren; two nephews, Ernie Fuller (Carol Ann) of Garland, Texas and Marcus Parker of Raleigh, NC; one niece, Yvonne Abdual-Salaam (Khalid) of Columbus, Ohio; as well as a number of great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
A special thank you to Magnolia Manor, Kindred Hospice, and Ms. Tamela Sherer and Mr. Larry Wilform for the care of our loved one.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Sunday, June 30, 2019 at Wesley United Methodist Church in York, SC, with Rev. Robert Shuler officiating and Rev. Dr. Anthony Johnson eulogizing. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York, SC.
Masonic Rites will be performed at his wake, which will be 6:00 to 7:00 pm, Saturday, June 29th at the funeral home.
