Mr. Johnny L. Thomasson, 71, affectionately known to family and friends as “Lee,” departed this life on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Born February 26, 1953 in York, he was a son of the late Samuel K. Thomasson and Martha Montgomery Thomasson.
Lee was a graduate of Jefferson High School in York, and gave his life early to Christ, becoming a faithful member of White Hill AME Zion Church. There he served on the Trustee Council, Hymn Choir, Family Day Committee, and the Men’s Ministry.
Lee also served over 30 years in White Hill Masonic Lodge #462, where he most recently held positions as Junior Warden and Senior Warden. As his dedication to Masonry expanded, Lee joined the Royal Arch Masons, Prince of Peace Lodge #26.
Lee worked for many years at Duke Power as a steel rigger, and later at T.E. Jones Furniture Company and Thermal Kem. He enjoyed mentoring his nephews and other young men, yard work, and mechanical tinkering.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Samuel “Kay” Thomasson, Sr. and Martha “Snooky” Thomasson; his brother, Edward “Bear” Thomasson; and his nephew, Isaac Thomasson.
Left to cherish loving memories of Lee are his wife of over forty years, Rosa White Thomasson of the home; two brothers, Donald Montgomery (Joan) and Samuel Thomasson; two sisters, Phyllis Wilson (Bishop Billy Wilson) and Joyce Smith (Rev. Charles Smith); four sisters-in-law, Sarah Belton, Jerome Thomasson, Cathy Dixon, and Jeanette White; three special aunts, Agnes Washington, Gladys Thomasson, and Marie Hill; as well as a large host of nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he dearly loved.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Friday, February 28, 2025 at White Hill AME Zion Church in York, SC with Rev. LeCounte Nedab officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 pm prior to the service. Masonic Rites will be observed at 11:30 am prior to the service.
