Johnny B Gary, Jr.

Mr. Johnny B. “Spyder” Gary, Jr. became absent from the body to be present with the Lord on Thursday, February  20, 2025. Johnny was born October 14, 1950 in York, South Carolina to the late Johnny B. and Isabell Gary.

Mr. Gary attended York County Public Schools. After school, he was employed with the York County Maintenance Department where he retired after 40 years of service.

To know him is to love him. Johnny, “Spyder” as he was called by family and friends, had a gift of taking the difficult moments in life and turning it into laughter. His smile was contagious to all who came into contact with him. Johnny had a heart of gold. He just didn’t say he loved you, but he put it into action by helping others. He truly lived Mark 12:31 which says, “The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself.”

He was a loving husband, brother, uncle, and friend. Mr. Johnny B. “Spyder” Gary Jr. will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, Johnny, Sr. and Isabell (Brown) Gary; His son, Johnny B. Gary III; three brothers: Glenn E. Gary, Raymie Gary, and David Lee Gary; and sister, Ruby White.

Surviving to Cherish fond memories are his wife of 44 ½ years Yvonne Gary; His sisters, Rosa Crawford (Marshall), Katherine Frierson (Beary), and Vera G. Lowry; His brother, Perry Gary (Clara); and His godson, Matthew Edwards. A special acknowledgement is extended to his caregivers:  Robert Witlock, Evelyn Burris, Clarissa Sanders, Vera G. Lowry, and Agape Hospice Care. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, February 27, 2025 at Gold Hill Baptist Church in York, SC, with Rev. Keith McCrorey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, Wednesday, February 26th at the church.
