Mr. John Abner Warden, 95, of Clover, SC passed away at Atrium Healthcare-Pineville on September 13, 2023. He was born June 27, 1928 in Coinjock, NC to the late Alexander and Essie Mae (Simmons) Warden.
John was the youngest of three children. He attended Currituck County schools until the 8th grade when he started working to help support his family. John was a hard worker and a tradesman who worked farming his family’s land until he moved to New York City at 18 years old. After moving to the Big Apple, John pursued his love, Louvenia, in a long-distance relationship, often writing her love letters. On July 6, 1956, John and Louvenia married; and had three children of their union: Winona, Kimberly and Craig Monte.
John loved New York City and all that came with it. Even after retiring and moving back down south, he always spoke fondly of his many, many years there and will always be remembered as a “true New Yorker”. He departed this world surrounded by his devoted family.
John is preceded in death by his wife, Louvenia; infant daughter, Kimberly; parents, Alexander and Essie Mae Warden; and sisters, Gladys Warden and Corrine Chambers.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his children; Winona Warden Mimms of Clover, SC and Craig Monte Warden of Decatur, GA; sister-in-law; Thomasena (William) Clark of Atlanta, GA, four grandchildren: Autumn (Franklin) Turner, Imani Warden, Chanel Mimms, and Craig Thomas Warden; three great-grandchildren: Josiah Turner, Noah Mimms, and Azavier Jackson. John also leaves a special niece: Evelyn Gaylord and great-niece: Rev. Allison (Rev. Stephen) Breland.
John’s loyalty and dedication to his family ran deep. He was proud of his family and all of their accomplishments. He was blessed to live a long life surrounded by those who loved him dearly. John’s spirit will live on and he will be greatly missed.
