John Rawlinson, Jr.

Mr. John Rawlinson, Jr., 88, of 305 Sharon Road, York, SC, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 20, 2025 at home.  Born May 2, 1937 in York, SC, he was a son of the late John and Hattie (Mitchell) Rawlinson.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Monday, July 28, 2025 at Gold Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Keith McCrorey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service.

John had two main loves—his family and baseball, especially the Mets. He was a highly decorated little league baseball coach for over seven years, and he mentored so many of his players during his tenure. During his life in New York, he worked as an orderly for Cue Gardens Hospital for 20 years, and Creedmore Psychiatric Institute for 32 years before retiring. Upon his return to South Carolina, he worked briefly with the York County Sheriff's Department, of which he was very proud of his service.

He began his walk with Christ at an early age at Gold Hill Baptist Church, and when he returned from New York, he rejoined Gold Hill. There, he served on the Hymn Choir and as a deacon for over 30 years.

Preceding him in death in addition to his parents is his beloved wife, Geraldine “Jean” Rawlinson; three children, Pat Mobley, Ronnie Jones, and Carolyn Dowd; all his siblings, of which he was the last; his grandson, Mekhi Anthony John Rawlinson; and his beloved aunt who raised him, Candy Rawlinson McCaw.

John leaves to cherish fond memories his children: John Wayne Rawlinson of the home, and Anthony Craig Rawlinson of York, SC; his grandchildren, Matthew Wayne Rawlinson of New York, Jasmine Carter and Giana Carter both of York, SC, Tonya Mobley, Stephen Mobley (Jessica), Sherri Mobley and Michelle Lindsey (Derrick) all of Rock Hill, SC; Ronnie Jones, Jr. and Marcus Jones both of Virginia; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
