Mr. John “Bud” Brown, Jr., 74, of 1220 Smith Woods Lane, Hickory Grove, SC, departed this life on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at home. Born September 28, 1951 in Rock Hill, he was a son of the late Janie Belle Bratton and John Brown, Sr.
John attended York Public Schools and worked for many years with Joe Daves Land Development Company in McConnells, SC. Later, he became a handyman and helped people remodel their homes in the community. John also started a lawncare service, which he worked until he became ill. He also joined Mt. Zion AME Zion Church in Hickory Grove.
A true San Fransico 49ers fan, he was never happier than when he could wear his team gear and watch the 49ers win!
He is preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Charles Weathers and Mildred Lee Hardin; brothers, Tommy Davis, Willie James Davis, Howard Lee Brown, and James Allen Bratton.
Left to cherish fond memories is his life partner, Peggy Reid of the home; four daughters, Dematric L. Whitlock, Renita L. Brown (Jonathan), Miranda Q. Brown, and Jacqueline T. Martin; two sons, Sederick A. Talford and Antonio Chalk, all of Rock Hill, SC; two daughters whom he raised, Tarasha R. Killian (Quinton) of Hickory Grove, SC and Marasha R. Smith (Avery) of York, SC; three sisters, Hattie Brown and Maggie Davis of York, SC and Angela Artis of Fort Lawn, SC; Nineteen grandchildren, including a grandson whom he raised, Quinton Tarchevis Killian; Five great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Sunday, October 12, 2025 at Mt Zion AME Zion Hickory Grove, SC with Rev. Frankie L. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 pm, Saturday, October 11th at the funeral home.
