Joesay Bratton

Joesay Cole Bratton, 93, of 210 Sharon Road, York, SC, died Friday October 18, 2024 at White Oak Manor of York, SC. She  was born June 23, 1931 to the late Charlie Virgil Cole and the late Annie Macie Good Cole in Sharon, SC.

At an early age she gave herself to God, being baptized in 1945 and joining  St. John Baptist Church, in Sharon SC. She was a faithful usher, sang on the choir and served multiple years as the missionary president. She gave of herself selflessly to the matters of the church. She was also a faithful member of the White Hill Chapter #350 Order of the Eastern Star.

In August of 1951, she joined in matrimony to the late Willie J. Bratton. To this union they were the proud parents of five children. Her life showed her love for sewing that she was proud to do for all that requested her talents, whether dresses, choir gowns, prom and wedding dresses, even suits. In addition to her passion for sewing, she also worked at American Thread and Pharr Yarn, both in Clover, SC, for many years.

She was preceded in the death by her parents, and her husband. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Mary Jo Cole Wade and Sarah Cole;  a son, Walter Lewis Bratton; a daughter, Martha Ellen Bratton; grandsons, Jeremy Terrell Bratton and Shaun Patrick Carroll, and daughter-in-law, Linda M. Wilson Bratton.

She leaves to cherish fond memories, sons Willie J Bratton, Jr. (Geraline) of Gaffney, SC and Wesley D. Bratton, of Simpsonville, SC; daughter, Norma Bratton Carroll, of Gastonia, NC; Daughter-in-law, Frances P. Bratton; Granddaughters, Ashley C. Blair (Cortlandt), LaTisha D. Bratton, and grandsons, Geräd A. Bratton, Devin L. Bratton, Ryan J. Bratton, Matthew A. Bratton; Granddaughter-in-law, Regina C. Carroll; Great-Granddaughter,  Alexandreya M. Carroll; Great-Grandsons, Joshua K. Bratton, Noah L. Bratton, Chance R. Bratton, and Jonathan E. Blair; great-great grandson, LaCarti S. Christian. A Sister-in-Law, Natyalum B. Bratton; a special cousin, Sarah Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 27, 2024 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Sharon, SC with Rev. Jerri Dye Neal offciating and Rev. Strauss Moore Shiple eulogizing. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Eastern Star rites will be observed during the visitation hour.
