Mrs. Jessie Mae Miller, 76, was born November 16, 1943 in Clover SC to the late Johnson B Glenn Brodhead and Lawrence Patterson, Jr., though she was raised by her grandmother, the late Bessie Glenn. She took her wings Saturday, March 21, 2020 peacefully at her home surrounded by her family.
At an early age, she gave her life to Christ and joined Flat Rock Baptist Church, where she wanted to ensure that things were done right in decency and in order. She was an active member and proudly served as the church secretary, on the Usher Board, Kitchen Committee, Hymn Choir, Pastors Aide, and Church Aide until her death. She also held Bible Study at her home for the kids of the East End Community.
Jessie was educated at Roosevelt High School. Following school, she was later employed at Pharr Yarn for over 30 years. After retiring, she took pride in taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jasper Miller, Jr.; a son, Jerry Miller; a daughter, Sarah Miller Cromartie; a brother, Willie "Connie" Glenn; and a sister, Hazel Brodhead.
She leaves to cherish fond memories two daughters and one son: Reverend Doris Neal (Larry), Jessica Miller, and Raymond Miller (Yvonne) all of York, SC; a son that she loved as her own, Mark Witherspoon (Sharon) and her twin sister, Minister Bessie Caldwell both of Gastonia, NC; a brother, Percy Brodhead of Worcester, MA; a sister-in-law, Nettie Mae Thompson (Fate) of York, SC; Grandchildren: Tyrell, Davien, Dominique, Denika, La'Toya, Jerel, Chavis, Ja'Mya, April, Quinton, Jessica, Natosha, and Ann; 12 great-grandchildren; three aunts, Ivory Graham, Eloise Glenn and Patricia Andrews; a goddaughter, Angela Austin (Rico); along with a host of nieces and nephews.
She also enjoyed lifelong friendships with her neighbors: Ernestine, Minnie, Maggie, Margret, Roy, Billie and a host of other East End family and friends; as well as several lifelong childhood friendships with Shirley, Mary, Barry and Louvenia.
Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon, Saturday, March 28, 2020 at Flat Rock Baptist Church in Clover, SC with Rev. Thomas Clifton officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York, SC.
The family will receive friends at the home and from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, Friday, March 27, 2020 at the funeral home.
