Mr. James Henry Thompson, Sr., 66, of 1125 Springdale Road, Rock Hill, SC, departed this life on Friday, March 18, 2022 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, SC. He was born September 17, 1955 in York, SC, a son of the late Austin Thompson and Sarah Hayes Thompson.
Funeral services will be 2:30 pm, Sunday, March 27, 2022 at Restoration Ministries Worldwide in York, SC with Bishop Tyrone Brown, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Uniondale Cemetery in York.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, March 26th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
Mr. Thompson was a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He attended Langrum Branch Baptist Church at a young age, and later became a member of Restoration Ministries Worldwide. He worked as a machine operator for many years, and later retired as a concrete finisher.
When in good health, he enjoyed fishing, playing pool, watching sports and taking vacations with the family. He loved to spend countless hours talking with his son. Most of all, he was CRAZY about his grands and great-grands, and was a die hard Redskins fan!
James was united in holy matrimony with Katherine Davis on March 8, 1980 in York, South Carolina, a union which stood the test of time.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson is preceded in death by his brother, Phillip Thompson.
Leaving to cherish fond memories are his wife, Katherine Davis Thompson of the home; daughters, Angela Davis, Kathy Davis (Gerard), Brenda Thompson, and Shannon Thompson all of Rock Hill, SC; sons, James Thompson and Jason Thompson (Keondra) of Rock Hill, SC; brothers, Arthur Lee Thompson, Mason Thompson (Joyce) and David Thompson (Joann) all of York, SC; a special niece, Kimberly Thompson, and special nephew, James Paige; a special daughter, LaToya Davie; sisters-in-law, Josephine Miller, Denise Brown, and Barbara Davis all of Rock Hill, SC; brothers-in-law, David Holley and Mayfield Davis (Maxine) both of Rock Hill, SC, and Robert McCoy (Faye) of Mooresville, NC; 18 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
