Jacqueline Hoey Obituary

“Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies... Favor is deceitful and beauty is vain; but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.” Proverbs 31:10-31

Jacqueline (Foster) Lowry Hoey lived a full life that she was proud of. Jacqueline was a joyful person with a gentle spirit who added value to the lives of everyone around her. Jacqueline was born on August 15, 1935, in Gaffney, South Carolina, to the late Amy and William Foster. She was the youngest of three siblings (William Foster and Otis Foster), whom she loved dearly.

Jacqueline received her primary education in the public schools of Gaffney, South Carolina. Upon completion of her primary education, she attended Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. There, she majored in education and also became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She obtained a Bachelors degree in education and would go on to finish her Masters degree in education at Winthrop University.

After finishing her Masters degree, Jacqueline followed her passion by becoming 5th grade teacher in Fort Mill, South Carolina, where she taught for 30 years. She retired in 1994. Jacquline loved teaching children. After she retired, the passion to educate was directed to helping raise her two grandchildren.

Jacqueline was also a dedicated wife. She married Frank “Dick” Lowry of York, South Carolina. She then relocated to York, where she raised her only biological child, Roderick Lowry. After the untimely passing of her husband, Dick, she would later marry James Hoey of Gaffney, South Carolina. She then relocated to her hometown of Gaffney, where she resided until her death. She gained four stepchildren in her second marriage, Harold Hoey, Harriet Williams, Donna Mintz, and Lakisha Muhammad.

She was an amazing grandmother and is now survived by two grandchildren, Rashad Bratton and India Lowry. Also left to cherish fond memories are five great-grandchildren, Memphis Osborne, Tayla Ratchford, Tyla, T.J., and Tia Bratton.

Jaqueline loved teaching inside and outside of the classroom. Gardening and spending time with her family were two of her favorite things to do. She enjoyed traveling with family, taking care of her loved ones, shopping and showering others with gifts. Her family meant the world to her and she would often show her gratitude towards them with gifts and trips. She enjoyed making everyone around her smile. She believed through the power Jacqueline (Foster) Lowry Hoey of education anything was possible.
