Mr. Isaac C. “Ike’ Wright, Jr. of Charlotte, NC and formerly of York, SC was born May 31, 1950 to his loving parents Isaac (IC) Wright, Sr. and Inez Tigler Wright. He departed this earthly life on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Pruitt Health-Union Point in Monroe, NC.

Ike was a member of St. James United Methodist Church. During his early years in attending the church, he served as an usher, a member of the Trustee Board and the United Methodist Men. Later in life while living in Charlotte, NC, he attended Hoskins Park Ministry, Rev. Johnny Allen, Minister.

Ike was a 1968 graduate of Roosevelt High School, Clover, SC. While attending Roosevelt, he was a school bus driver, a member of the Yearbook Staff, voted ‘Best Dressed and Most Attractive’ and was a star running back for the ‘Mighty Roosevelt Tigers’. After graduating high school, Ike attended South Carolina State College in Orangeburg, SC.

He was employed by Duke Energy Nuclear Plant of York, Champion Labs of York, and The Hoskins Park Ministry of Charlotte, NC where he proudly served as a supervisor, counselor/mentor and house manager. As a house manager, his purpose was to listen, mentor and encourage the men of the program who were struggling with life’s issues. One of his greatest joys was preparing and leading the morning devotion with his group. Ike’s claim to fame was being the coach for the ‘Mighty Midget Tigers’ of Clover. He was able to share and use his knowledge of the game of football. The Midget Tigers, which included his son, Wendell, brought home the Championship Title in 1987. Ike was also an avid Carolina Panthers fan.

He leaves to cherish fond memories, his wife, Veronica Wright of Charlotte, NC; two sons, Stephen Watkins, Charlotte, NC, and Wendell Wright, Clover, SC; one grandson, Braylen Wright, Ocala, Florida; one stepson, Myron Williams, Charlotte, NC; one stepdaughter, Chandra Miller, Charlotte, NC; one step granddaughter, Aubre Miller, Charlotte, NC; and a host of cousins and dear friends.
