Ida Burris Obituary

Mrs. Ida (Smith) Burris, 79, of 757 Old Pinckney Road, York, departed this life on Sunday, July 20, 2025 at Levine & Dickson Southminster Hospice House in Charlotte, NC. Born February 26, 1946 in Lowndes County, Mississippi, she was a daughter of the late Leb and Callie (Gordon) Smith.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Friday, July 25, 2025 at Gold Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Keith McCrorey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm prior to the service.

“ Do not let your hearts be troubled.  You believe in God: believe also in me.  My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” John 14:1-3

Ida Smith Burris, the daughter of the late Leb and Callie Smith, was born February 26, 1946, in Columbus, Mississippi.  She departed this earth peacefully on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Levine Dickson Hospice House at Southminster in Charlotte, NC.

            Ida had a beautiful spirit.  She was a loving and caring person who often put the needs of others before her own.

Ida received her High School Diploma from York High School.  She continued her education at York Technical College, where she received an associate degree in Machine Tool Technology and Blueprint Reading and Sketching.

Ida worked at Sullivan and Carson for many years, York County Disability Board and Wal-Mart.

Her Christian journey began at an early age in Columbus, MS. Her passion was attending church services and working in the church.  She later became a dedicated member of Gold Hill Baptist Church.  She served on the Usher Board, several choirs and the president of the missionary group.  She was dedicated to the Missionary Group.  She took pride in her role as president.  She enjoyed attending the annual workshops every year to improve the Missionary Group.  She looked forward to revival season every year.  She loved her church family.

Ida was preceded in death by her parents Leb and Callie Smith; Sisters, Martha Cooper, Buelah Smith Lee, Emma Smith, Maria Smith-Gray, Laura Smith Clarke; Brothers, Willie Smith, Leb Smith, Jr., Eddie James Smith, Roger Smith, and Dives Smith; and a Niece, Catherine Brisbane.

Surviving to cherish loving memories are daughter, Sharon Burris Byrd and  son in law Edward Keith Byrd of Charlotte, NC; Brothers, John Smith of Indiana and Elijah Smith of Florida; her Sister, Sally Sherrod of Ohio; Two grandchildren, Edward Byrd, Jr. (EJ) and Ashley Armstrong; Three great grandchildren; a Special Niece, LaCharley Sherrod and Special Nephew, Ormega Smith; as well as host of nieces and nephews.
