Obituary

Ianthia Cornelius (Meeks) Neville, 92, was born on May 31, 1931, in York, South Carolina to the late Harper and Annie Belle Meeks. She was the widow of the late Leo Neville. She passed away on August 30, 2023, at the Village Manor in Abilene, Kansas.

Ianthia raised five children with the help of the Lord. She always encouraged her children to complete High School and to further their education. After relocating to in Montclair, New Jersey with her family, she attended Montclair State College and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. She enjoyed being home, cooking, entertaining family & friends, as well as traveling to visit relatives. Her favorite foods were fried catfish and Chinese food.

She eventually moved back to South Carolina and worked for the Veteran Affairs Administration in Columbia, South Carolina. She loved serving the Veterans and after many years of work, she decided to retire.

She was a devoted member of the New Home A.M.E. Zion Church where she loved to serve the Lord by singing in the choir and attending to the needs of the body of Christ. She was very committed to giving to those in need and recognized that it was God’s will to bless others. It was evident by those who witnessed her in action understood that she believed in doing things the right way.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Harper and Annie Bell (Wright) Meeks; husband: Leo Neville; three children: two daughters, Norma Jean Meeks and Freida Thomas; and one Son, James Franklin Crawford; and a host of other beloved family members.

 Ianthia leaves to cherish her memory two daughters: Barbara Ann Taylor of Junction City, Kansas and Phyllis Crawford Bouler of Chester, South Carolina. She also leaves one sister: Dorinda L. Thomason (wife of Rev. John J. Thomason) of Stratford, Connecticut, one daughter-in-law, Robin Crawford; and a host of nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great-grandchildren & other beloved family members.

In her passing, she leaves a host of memories and will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be 3:00 pm, Sunday, September 24, 2023 at New Home AME Zion Church in York, SC with Rev. H. A. Gregory, III officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:00 pm, prior to the service.
