Mrs. Helen L. Perry, 86, departed this life Tuesday, May 26, 2020 with loving family by her side in York, SC. Born December 30, 1933 in Elizabeth City, NC, she was a daughter of the late James and Mattie Copeland Franklin.
Mrs. Perry's viewing will be from 2:00 to 3:00 pm, Monday, June 1, 2020 at Memorial Baptist Missionary Church in Elizabeth City, NC. Private family burial will follow the viewing at West Lawn Cemetery in Elizabeth City with Pastor Joseph A. Turner, Sr. officiating.
Mrs. Perry was educated in Pasquotank County Public Schools and later married Lee E. Perry, Sr. in 1953. In addition to helping her late husband on the farm, she also worked in the furniture industry as a cabinet assembler. Mrs. Perry also loved to cater events and baked numerous cakes over the years for special occasions.
A faithful member of her home church, Memorial Baptist Missionary Church, she was considered a "Mother" of the church, as well as serving on the Deaconess Board.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a son, Lee E. Perry, Jr.; a brother, Lee Ernest Franklin; and a granddaughter, Leisha Perry.
Surviving to cherish loving memories are a daughter, Mattie Perry Johnson (Dr. Ernest Johnson) of Durham, NC, a son, Robert Perry of Elizabeth City, NC; two sisters, Sadie Marie Billups and Jessie Lee Barcliff, both of Elizabeth City, NC; her brother, Larry Franklin (Beverly) of Elizabeth City, NC; and five grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
