Funeral services will be 2:30 pm, Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Neely's Grove AME Zion Church in Gastonia, NC. Military Honors will be observed. Burial is private with the family.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 pm, Friday, October 25, 2024 at Wright Funeral Home in York, SC, and from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm prior to the service.
81, of Gastonia, NC, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Born March 25, 1943, he gave his life to Christ at an early age. He was dedicated to his church where he served numerous positions until his health began to fail. He served as an Usher, sang on the Hymn Choir, member of Brotherhood Breakfast and the Steward Board. Harvey also dedicated his life to his service in the military and to his family.
Harvey was a 1960 graduate of Highland High School of Gastonia, NC. He then attended Linotype school in New York City, after which he was drafted into the US Army and he proudly served from 1966 to 1968. His military career took him to various parts of the world, including his tour of duty in Germany. His commitment to his country was unwavering, and he was a source of inspiration to all who knew him.
Following his military service, he returned home to attend Evans Business College where he met his wife of 50 years, Mary. He worked numerous years at Homelite Textron in Gastonia, NC. Later, Harvey worked at AMP/TYCO as a Tool and Die operator where he retired after 28 years. Harvey began employment at and later retired from Black & Decker in Charlotte, NC. Harvey was known for his hard work ethics, dedication, fairness, and compassion. He left a lasting impact on those he served and worked alongside.
Throughout the years, Harvey was a die-hard Green Bay Packer and Boston Celtic fan and never wavered even when his team was losing. He stayed true to his team. In his retirement, Harvey enjoyed hunting with his friends, volunteering at his church, and enjoyed sharing stories and knowledge with his granddaughter, Londyn teaching her words he learned while serving in Germany.
In the 81 years that Harvey lived, he was so many things to so many people. He was a son, a brother, a husband, a dad, a pawpaw, an uncle, a cousin and a friend. Harvey truly had a heart of gold, always looking out for others and lending a listening ear. Harvey didn’t just live for his happiness but for the happiness of others.
In his retirement, Harvey enjoyed hunting with his friends, volunteering at his church, and enjoyed sharing stories and knowledge with his granddaughter, Londyn, teaching her words he learned while serving in Germany.
Harvey was preceded in death by his father, Miles Jackson, Sr., his mother, Myrtle Stowe Jackson, his brother, Miles Jackson, Jr., and his daughter-in-law, LaShasta Coulter Jackson.
Harvey is survived by his beloved wife, of 50 years, Mary Thomason Jackson; his children, Harvey Lee Jackson, Jr. and Jacqueline Monique Jackson; his granddaughters, Londyn Alyse Jackson and Malay Brown; one brother, Robert Andrew Jackson; his sisters-in-law, Alice Thomas (James), Penina Thomason, Lavaughn Jackson Beaty, Margaret Jackson Thomason, Mae Ola Ratchford Thomason, and Emma Anderson Thomason; brothers-n-law, Philip Armstrong of Charlotte, NC and Frank Armstrong of Philadelphia, PA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. His legacy of service, love, and dedication will forever be cherished by his family and friends.
