Mr. Guy Richard Black, Sr., 78, of 201 Williams Street, York, South Carolina departed this earthly life on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at Pruitt Health Rehabilitation Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Born April 17, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri, he was a son of the late Thomas, Sr. and Ruby Mae (Beasley) Black.
Guy worked several years for GM-Chevrolet in Kansas City, Missouri while attending college classes. Deciding to attend college full-time, he left Kansas City and moved to South Carolina State University for one year. Later, he had an opportunity to play college basketball in Montana where he joined his brother in school. While in Montana, Richard, as he was affectionately called, suffered a major stroke and was unable to continue college or basketball. Despite this setback, he continued to work as often as possible and especially enjoyed being a mentor to troubled youth while in Kansas City, Missouri.
A huge sports fanatic, he watched everything—basketball, football, baseball—all the sports! Richard also loved spending time reading the Bible and could often be found studying and making notes in guided study Bibles.
Preceding him in death are his Mother: Ruby Mae Beasley Black; Father: Thomas Lee Black, Sr.; Brother: Thomas Lee Black, Jr.; and his Wife of 53 years: Fraces Burris Black
Surviving to cherish fond memories are his son, Guy Richard Black, Jr. (wife, Angela Cherise) of Marietta, SC; granddaughter, Alisia Arden Black; Siblings: Gary L. Black of San Diego, CA and Vernon L. Black (Carrie) of Hercules, CA; three Sisters-in-law, Shirley Simpson, Maggie Burris, and Lillie Burris all of York, SC; a brother-in-law, Willie T. Morrison of Lancaster, SC; and a host of other relatives and friends.
