Geraldine "Jean" (McKay) Rawlinson

We celebrate the life of Geraldine McKay Rawlinson, daughter of the late Roland McKay and Juanita Sowell McKay. Geraldine was born on November 17,1942 in Ruby, SC. Geraldine graduated from Petersburg High School in Pageland, SC in 1961. 

Geraldine was called into a peaceful eternal rest on the afternoon of August 23, 2023. 

Geraldine met and fell in love with John in 1971.  Initially they met in Pageland, SC. They then reunited again on West Kinney Street in Newark, NJ. Geraldine and John were married in 1972, bought a home and moved to Queens, NY where they raised their two sons, Wayne and Anthony.  Geraldine worked at Pan Am Airlines at Kennedy Airport for 32 years. Geraldine retired in 1998.  Geraldine and John built a home and moved to York, South Carolina to enjoy retirement.

Geraldine joined Gold Hill Baptist Church where she served as Deaconess, Usher, a dedicated and faithful member of the Church Choir and served on the kitchen committee. Geraldine was also a member of the Women of Vision group as well. 

Geraldine was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Aunt who loved and put God first in her life. Geraldine loved everyone and always had a welcoming smile and a heartwarming hug for everyone she came in contact with.

Geraldine is preceded in death by her Mother, Juanita Sowell McKay and Father Roland McKay; Sister, Nealie Pearl McKay Bowen; Brothers, Luther McKay, Jack McKay, Nelford McKay and John Roland McKay; her Grandson, Mekhi Rawlinson; and her daughter in law, Mikaela Rawlinson.  

Left to cherish Geraldine’s memories are her Husband, John Rawlinson Jr.; her children, John Wayne Rawlinson and Anthony Rawlinson; her Sisters, Elenora (McKay) Richardson of Hampton, Virginia and Betty (McKay) Harris of Ruby, SC; and a host of Nieces, Nephews and other relatives and friends she met and loved along the way.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Gold Hill Baptist Church in York, SC with Rev. Keith McCrorey officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, September 1st also at Gold Hill Baptist Church.
