Mr. George Philip Wilform was born on February 27, 1943 and received his heavenly crown on March 11, 2023. George was the fourth born of nine children to the late Robert Daniel Wilform, Sr. and Dorothy Byers Wilform of York, S.C.
In his earlier years, George had many nicknames, such as, “Droop”, “Mouthy”, and “Sneaky Pete”. These names were given to him by family and friends during his formative years. His life was developed through his faith-based family, whose roots began through church at Wesley United Methodist Church in York, SC.
George was a graduate of Jefferson High School, Class of 1961. In high school, he participated in football and served as a school bus driver. After high school, he left York and moved to New York City where he lived for 42 years. During his time in N.Y.C., he became the father of three daughters: Valerie, Enid, & Raheya. While in N.Y.C., George worked for the U.S. Postal Service and the New York City Transit Authority (bus driver), but found his purpose with the N.Y.P.D. During his 28 years with the N.Y.P.D., he served in narcotics as an undercover officer, first grade homicide detective, and then was appointed to Mayoral detail (David Dinkins). George received numerous awards, recognition, and accolades until he retired in 2001. George returned home to York shortly after his retirement in 2001.
Preceding him in death are two brothers, Robert Daniel Wilform, Jr. and Raymond Douglas Wilform.
Left to cherish fond memories are his three daughters, Valerie M. Wilform-Starks (Darryl, Sr.), Enid Cheri Wilform, all of Charlotte, N.C. and Raheya Wilform-Ames (Desmond, Sr.) of Bronx, N.Y.; six grandchildren: Malaysia, Darryl, Jr., Imani, Isaiah, Naimah, and Desmond, Jr.; five siblings, Jeanette Wilform Giles-Fleming of York, S.C.; Dolores M. Wilform-Adams (John Wesley) of Clover, S.C.; Leon O. Wilform, Victor Wilform (Lois), of Rock Hill, S.C., and Beverly Wilform-Bell of York, S.C; A special friend, Marilyn Sanford of Fayetteville, N.C; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral serivces will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Wesley United Methodist Church in York, SC. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm prior to the service.
