Frances Louise Burris Black, daughter of the late Walker “Bud” Burris and Carrie Louise Wade Burris, was born November 23 1947 in York, South Carolina. She peacefully departed life surrounded by family on May 2, 2021.
Frances Louise grew up in York, South Carolina and attended Jefferson High School, graduating in 1967. She went to Airline School in Kansas City, Missouri and in later years attended South Carolina State University.
She married her beloved husband of 53 years, Guy Richard Black, Senior while in Kansas City, Missouri.
Frances and Richard lived in Kansas City, where to them was born their son, Guy Richard Black, Junior. Frances worked for Sears Roebuck and Co. for almost three decades before moving back to York, South Carolina. In York, Frances enjoyed working with friends at Lowe’s Home Improvement for many years. She took pleasure in taking care of children and gardening. Frances faithfully served at her church, Fishing Creek Baptist Church, where she was head usher.
In addition to her parents, Frances is preceded in death by two brothers, Willie Marion Burris and Robert Louis Burris; five sisters, Lillie Mae Fox, Miamie Odessa Hemphill, Elois Wilform-Malcolm, Vestrula Morrison, and Patricia Ann Burris; and two brothers-in-law, Marshall Hemphill and Thomas Lee Black.
Cherished memories are left to carry on her legacy through her son, Guy Richard Black, Junior (Angela Cherise) of Greer, SC. She is also survived by her husband, Guy Richard Black Senior; granddaughter, Alisia Arden Black of Greer, SC; aunt, Lilly Taylor of Winston-Salem, NC; two sisters, Maggie Marie Burris and Shirley Vanessa Simpson, both of York, SC; brother, Hazel Lee Burris of York, SC; four brothers-in-law, Gary Lee Black of San Diego, CA, Vernon Leroy Black (Carrie) of Hercules, CA, Willie T. Morrison of Lancaster, SC and Wesley J. Malcolm of Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law, Lillie Gill Burris of York, SC; goddaughter, Donna Musgrow of Kansas City, MO; in addition to many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Frances loved Jesus and was a kind, giving person. She will be forever loved by many people.
Services will be 11:00 am graveside, Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York, SC with Rev. Reginald McClean officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service.
Visitation and viewing will be from 9 to 10 am prior to the service.
Services will be live streamed on Facebook through Wright Funeral Home.
