Mrs. Edith Irene Ross Youngblood, 94, of 604 West Liberty Street, York, South Carolina departed this earthly life on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at home. Born April 2, 1924 in York County, she was a daughter of the late John Wesley Ross and Alouise Wright Ross.
After high school, Edith earned her Associates Degree from Clinton College. She retired from Celanese Corporation, having worked several different machine operator positions. Never one to leave a job undone, she volunteered faithfully at P.A.T.H., serving as a Board Member.
Edith accepted Christ into her life from a young age, and was a faithful member of Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church. She served on the Trustee Board, as Superintendent of Sunday School, Treasurer, and tutored in the Childrens’ program.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel V. Youngblood; brother, James Wesley Ross; and sister, John Mary Tolbert.
She leaves to cherish loving memories four daughters, Jean Murray (Freddy) and Sarene Burris both of York, SC, Sonya Youngblood of Fayetteville, NC, and Emma Currence (Warren) of Lincolnton, NC; a son, William Boulware (Marjorie) of Fayetteville, NC; a brother, William “Bill” Ross of St. Albans, NY; a sister, Anna Brooks (Edwin) of Upper Marlboro, MD; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and twelve nieces and nephews; as well as a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Graveside funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York, SC, with Rev. Albert Tolbert officiating. Burial will follow.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, Saturday, October 6th at the funeral home.
