Douglas "Snack" Craig, Jr.
Mr. Douglas "Snack" Craig, Jr. aged 75, of 2890 McCaw Rd, Sharon, South Carolina passed away peacefully at Wm. Jennings Byran Dorn VA Medical Center on June 29th, 2022.
Douglas was born on February 6th, 1947 in Chester, SC to his late parents Douglas Craig, Sr. and Janie Thompson Craig. He attended Finley High School in Chester, SC until the age of 18 before being drafted into the Army. He was a decorated Army veteran who served in the Vietnam war, receiving the Purple Heart, the Vietnam Service Medal, and 2 bronze stars. In addition to his many accolades, he also received the Expert Marksmanship (M14 & M16) Combat Infantry Badge and the National Defense Service Medal.
Douglas later married the love his life Mary McCoy Craig and planted his roots in Sharon, SC, where he joined Wilson Chapel AME Zion Church. There, he became a member of the Trustee Board, Men's Fellowship and the Steward Board. Douglas loved beginning his morning with the daily newspaper and cup of coffee. He enjoyed working outdoors, riding 4 Wheelers and spending time creating memorable moments with family and friends.
Douglas is preceded in death by his parents, the late Douglas Craig, Sr. and Janie Thompson Craig; his sisters, Anne Hackett and Willie Ann; his brothers, Raymond Craig and Dorris Craig; and his grandson, Jevon M. Ayala.
Douglas leaves his legacy of life to his family, a devoted wife of 34 years, Mary McCoy Craig; his children: David Spencer, Wendy Craig, Gina Adams, Maurice (Wanda) Gary, Tonja Craig, Cheryl Jenerette, and Tony (Melissa) Craig; seven sisters, Fronnie Cunningham, Addie Keith, Brenda Smith, Linda Brice, Lela (Robert) Dixon, Arie Williams, Pauline Byers, Minnie (Leonard) McClain; and one brother, Roger Craig; nineteen grandchildren and twenty two great-grandchildren; great aunt, Lillian Brown; Mother-in law, Mary McCoy; eight sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family members and caring friends.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Thursday, July 7, 2022 at Wilson Chapel AME Zion Church in Sharon, SC, with Rev. Forrest Woodard officiating and Rev. Rose Bryant eulogizing. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Craig may be viewed from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Wednesday, July 6th at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at the home.
